What’s So Cool About Blog Syndication Tribes Anyway?
What is a Blog Syndication Tribe?
Being part of a tribe in general means you are all united for one common vision or goal. That goes for any kind of tribe.
Definition of a Tribe : a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest.
When people unite for a common cause there is power beyond measure over an individual trying to do it on their own.
So the common interest of a Blog Syndication Tribe? Duh,,,, Blog Syndication.
It’s getting massive exposure to everyone’s blogs in the tribe.
How to make one work for you:
1. You have to reciprocate. – I’m sure your first thought is “why would I want to syndicate other people’s stuff, and why would they do it for me?”
Your friends/followers/subscribers are gonna think you are all about “me, me, me” if all you ever syndicate is your own stuff. And some bookmarking sites will actually give you the boot if all you ever do is post your blog on there.
They’re also going to think you’re acting like a “know it all”.
By sharing other people’s work you are showing leadership and confidence. If you aren’t sharing other people’s content it makes you look like you are insecure about your own content being able to “hold it’s own”. So you don’t want to post anything that would seem like “competition” to what your own posts say.
If you aren’t sharing other people’s content they have no reason to share yours. If you don’t reciprocate, neither will they.
2. Write something worth commenting and syndicating. – Just because everyone in the tribe is “supposed” to syndicate your content doesn’t mean they will. If you’re writing crap or constantly promoting your company or affiliate products then no one is going to comment on that unless they are selling the same thing as you.
And the whole point of being in a tribe isn’t to be promoting the same thing, that’s just not how it works. (I’ll tell you how it works at the bottom) You want to have a diverse group of marketers in your tribe. It provokes thoughtful comments and sometimes even a little controversy and friendly debates between marketers.
This is extremely helpful if you can speak with confidence in your replies and convey your point of view clearly and concisely.
I’m not afraid to speak up and say if I disagree with a post. Because as a blogger you don’t want a string of comments that say “good job” and “so true”. Don’t be afraid of controversy and sticking out from the mainstream. It’s what’s gonna get you the most comments and attention.
Be news worthy, create buzz, earn the right to be ReTweeted.
3. Make it easy for others to syndicate it and comment on it. – I’m gonna blunt. It annoys the hell out of me when I can’t find a ReTweet or Share Button on a post. If it’s not easily accessible I’m not going to go looking for it.
Sure I could hit my share button on the toolbar on my browser. But if the owner of a blog isn’t going to make it easier for the people I’m sharing with to pass it on, then I’m not going to go out of my way to do it either.
Some may say that I have a poor sport attitude about this, but my thought is: If the owner of the blog wants their content shared, then it should be easy to be shared. When readers are finished reading they want to just click a “like” or “share” button and move on with their lives.
The same goes with blog comments. I’ve seen some blogs that require people to set up a login in order to post to the blog. When a blog owner requires commenters to login they are pretty much saying “I don’t think the general public is good enough or smart enough to comment on my blog.”
I know some people are sick of seeing Spam comments on their blog and they think this is their way around it. Not so. Install the Akismet plugin to block spam, it gets put in a separate folder where it can be reviewed. Also, require that first time commenters have their comment as pending until approved.
How and why a tribe works:
You get exposure to thousands of people. There’s no fear of “stealing” someone’s lead or sale because we all have different personalities and are going to attract different people. That is why you want to have a diverse group of marketers in your Tribe. You don’t want to all have the same products or primary business.
Your main focus as a Tribe is syndication.
Not everyone on my friend’s list or as a follower on Twitter is going to really connect with me and have the same thoughts.
I might share someone else’s content that they DO like and can connect with. In exchange when someone shares my content, one of their followers might prefer to work with me. Tribe syndication works with an Abundance mindset.
You have to believe that through the power of sharing your content gets exposed to an abundance of people. In exchange you share the rest of the Tribe’s content and they get the abundance of exposure to your followers.
You also get to take the credit and social proof that you are sharing something valuable that you found. You become a source of information that people go to on a regular basis because they know that you will share more than just your own content and they can hear more than one viewpoint. And you are the convenient central location that shares everything.
How to find a Tribe:
Just go search for them in the Facebook groups and fanpages,,,, however, there’s no structure or order to how content is syndicated. So these aren’t all that effective. For true effectiveness you need to have a system in place so people know who to syndicate and when.
Even better would be syndicating on autopilot. Get in a Tribe and put your content on autosyndication steroids!
