Breaking through writer’s block.

Hit the wall and run out of topics in your article marketing? Article marketing requires consistent release of content. But what are you supposed to do when you get writer’s block?

First of all, if you chose articles as your form of marketing I should hope that you truly like to write. Because you will need to be doing a lot of it.

To get thru a writer’s block, professional writers say to just keep writing. It doesn’t matter if what you write turns out to be good enough for publishing. The writing itself leads to productive ideas.

“What do I write about?”

This is the number one question I am asked by new marketers choosing to use article marketing.

Every article should be based around a keyword to create top search engine results. The article should stay on topic for the keyword that is chosen. Here are the 5 categories of keywords to use for article marketing, starting with the easiest one to rank high for.

YOU – Writing an entire article about yourself isn’t effective when you are new because no one is going to care who you are at first. But here’s why I mention it: when someone does learn who you are they are going to research your name. Put your name as a keyword in any content you produce. Also, put a single biographical line about yourself in the “about the author” section. Write this section in 3rd person and write out your name. I also include this because article marketing is based on attraction marketing and your purpose is to attract people to YOU.

*Tip: Articles should link back to your blog or website where there is a section all about you with your story. Prospects want to know you and trust you before they join you.

YOUR COMPANY – Once people find you and research you they are going to figure out which MLM company you are in. When they do a search of your MLM you want them to find what you have to say about the company. Not someone bad mouthing your MLM opportunity. Write a positive 3rd person review of your company. Make it informative and honest without hype. Readers will see right through that.

*Tip: Everyone thinks that their company is “the best” speak positive about your company without hype and include a story of success. Remember FTC law and NO income claims.

OTHER COMPANIES – Why should you write a review of a company you aren’t in? Because people who are looking to join MLM research a lot of companies. If you present yourself as an expert in MLM and write about other companies you will attract prospects because you are knowledgeable about more than just your MLM. Again, be honest in your review. Be sure to state that you are not with the company you are reviewing so there is no confusion later.

*Tip – Never trash talk and don’t write about things you don’t know about. If you don’t understand compensation plans don’t try to explain one. Summarize the company history. You can include a marketing strategy on how to make money in XYZ company. and keep it factual.

*Bonus Tip – Write about NEW companies. Ones that have been around for awhile will have a lot of articles about them. If you are one of the first to write about a company your article can be found faster and easier.

PRODUCTS and PEOPLE – There are a lot of big names in the MLM industry. Those big name marketers usually have released their own training or affiliate products. Write a review of their product or a biographical story about them. Again, be honest and keep your facts straight. Do your homework on a person first. And NEVER use the word scam along with a person’s name. Successful people can afford lawyers, don’t bring a lawsuit on yourself. This topic is why you want to make yourself rank high in search engines when you first begin article marketing. As you become successful other people will write about you. You want to be the one in control of the content that people see.

*Tip: Write about a product you actually use. If you are an affiliate of that product you can include a link to it in the resource box of the article. Most article sites allow 2 links in the resource box. One should always be back to the original content on your website. The other can be to your affiliate link.

GENERIC – Topics on the “how to” of MLM. How to choose a domain name, how to choose a sponsor, how to create article content, how to find the right company, how to make money in MLM, how to market online, how to prospect offline… This topic is endless. But since it’s generic it is harder to rank in the search engine results. It is easiest to write about though.

*Tip: Watch one training video or webinar on MLM and you will have plenty of topics to write about. Choose one and elaborate.

Make your content original. You can write about the same topic or idea that someone else has written. I’m sure someone else has written on this same topic before, perhaps even with this same format. What matters is that the words are your own. You can use the same idea, not the same words.

If you submit to more than one article site you must “spin” the article. Change the wording of the article with synonyms and different sentence structure. Search engines will ignore your article if it is posted everywhere exactly the same.

If you say the names Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos at a marketing event or around anyone that has been in the MLM and network marketing industry they will immediately think of Amway.

If you say the name Jay Van Andel in the town I grew up in people think of Elton John, NCAA Hockey, AFL Arena Bowl Games, Kenny Chesney, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Who, or The Harlem Globetrotters. The Van Andel Arena was named in 1996 for it’s largest benefactor, Jay and Betty Van Andel.

Jay and Betty Van Andel also founded the Van Andel Institute in 1996 to enhance lives through biomedical research and education. With their son David Van Andel now as the CEO, the primary focus of the Van Andel Institute is cancer research but studies also include osteoporosis, Parkinson disease and diabetes.

And the DeVos name? That makes people think of the DeVos Children’s Hospital. DeVos Children’s Hospital and the Van Andel Institute collaborate in a fellowship program focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and blood disorders.

The DeVos name also makes the people in my area think of the DeVos Place and DeVos Performance Hall. This facility includes a 40,000 sq ft ball room and a performing theater. It is host to conventions, ballet, opera and broadway shows.

All of these are within a short distance of the Amway Grand Plaza which puts any other hotel in the area to shame and the Gerald Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I’ve never been a part of the Amway opportunity, but I don’t need to in order to know the good that has been done by Van Andel and DeVos. The second largest city in Michigan is host to their contributions to society.

The terrible reputation and trash talk that the MLM industry gets usually comes back to focus on Amway. The success that Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos with Amway is seen throughout West Michigan. Before believing or spreading more trash talk about Amway, look up the places and foundations mentioned above because they do more than I can begin to mention.

I am proud to say that I grew up in the home state of Amway.

My favorite advice I ever got about marketing an MLM opportunity I learned from Mike Dillard in Magnetic Sponsoring. He didn’t come up with this on his own, Perry Marshall said it, and he’s not the only marketing expert that uses this example. The idea has been passed around between marketers and is a fundamental lesson.

“Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should advertise information about making holes. – NOT information about drills!”

It’s so simple it sounds like a riddle and doesn’t make any sense at first.

Think about the purchases you make.

If you want to get somewhere faster than what it would take driving, you buy a plane ticket. You don’t buy it because you want to sit in a plane for a few hours.

If you want to be a lawyer you get a college degree. People don’t go to college because they like sitting in long lectures.

If you want to hang a picture, you buy a hammer and nails.

You get the idea.

These purchases are a means to an end. They are “tools” to get the end result that we want.

Did you really join your MLM business opportunity because it had the best product or the best comp plan?

You may have joined it for the extra money. But it wasn’t really for the money either was it?

You joined because you had dreams about what you could do with that money. You have big dreams, hopes and a vision.

You want to provide a lifestyle for your family and give back to your community. Along the way you’ll be able to have an awesome house and car and whatever else you desire, but you have a dream of being financially free without stress and without worrying about bills.

The list goes on, because everyone’s idea of a dream is different.

You might want to be living in a huge lodge on the side of a mountain. Or to be sitting under a palm tree drinking out of a coconut. Or starting a community housing project.
Or sailing all over the world. Or maybe you want to do what I do and have a martini while watching the sunset on the water any night I feel like it.

It doesn’t matter because there are as many dreams as there are people.

The point is people don’t join MLM opportunities because they want a business. They join because they have a dream, and you are providing the tools.

As MLM marketers we are truly the marketers of dreams.

Dreams of being free of a boss and stuck in a 9 to 5 job. Unlimited income potential. Taking command of your career and life. What we do beats any other occupation hands down because we change lives. Your job is to build a strong organization and build strong relationships, deliver what you promise and stand behind what you deliver and it is fueled by desire.

This means you had better be able to deliver an MLM opportunity that will be the tool to get to that dream. You had better deliver the tools, such as training, books, videos, marketing systems that will fuel that MLM opportunity to success.

As a marketer in an MLM opportunity you have a responsibility to those you sponsor to provide the tools to get the to their dream. A car dealership doesn’t sell a new car with an empty tank of gas! What good is the car if it can’t be driven off the lot.

Realize the dealership doesn’t teach people how to drive, there is some responsibility on both sides of the deal. There needs to be commitment from both parties involved in the transaction. Dealerships check driver’s licenses before handing over the keys. Are you making sure your prospects are qualified?

Once I found out that Numis Network wasn’t selling soap, lotion, candles, juice or vitamins I had to check it out. What is the product?

At first glance they are selling Gold and Silver. Which people believe to be of more value and to be an asset instead of the consumable products most other MLM companies sell.

But the Numis Network was actually founded on the idea of selling collectible coins made from Gold and Silver. In theory there is a large population of Americans that collect coins and that this MLM company will appeal to that niche market. Using the platform of MLM to distribute the coins allows people to make money while at the same time collecting money.

The Numis Network doesn’t distribute coins like quarters and dimes, they are Numismatic coins. These are for collectible purposes only and it is a $100 Billion dollar industry worldwide. The term “commemorative coin” and “numismatic coin” are usually considered to be interchangeable.

I have never been a collector of anything so this is not a business opportunity that appeals to me. So I have a biased opinion to not join Numis Network. But, for those that have an interest in coin collecting I can break down the business opportunity for you.

Numis Network works similar to any other MLM opportunity. The real opportunity is signing other Numis Network distributors into the company and receiving a compensation. Compensation is also created from signing up customers into an autoship program where they receive product every month. The bigger compensation comes from signing up new distributors.

Numis Network uses a compensation plan that is called a binary plan. That means there are two legs under you and then you place your distributors in one of the two legs. It appeals to new marketers because they see it as two streams of income. It later feels like twice the work.

You promote yourself as a Numis Network distributor through the company replicated website they provide. The problem with that is all the other Numis Network distributors have the same website to promote. It’s not very customizable. Therefore you aren’t going to stand out from any other Numis Network representative.

So how are you supposed to stand out?

Numis Network offers training on how to promote your opportunity but this training involves contacting people that you know personally who like to collect coins.

What happens when you run out of people to talk to?

The key to being successful in any MLM company is promoting yourself. If someone wants to join Numis Network they can join with anyone. You need to give them a reason to join with you.

Share with people how you are going to help them succeed as a Numis Network distributor. Provide prospects with the training that will also help them to become a success. You are only as successful as the people you sign into your business.

In order to promote yourself as the world’s best Numis Network distributor trainer you need to have a marketing system in place. A system that will promote you and your opportunity and train your distributors to also have success.

MLM companies come and go, it can even happen to a company like Numis Network. If and when the company disappears, you will remain. That is why it is more important to promote yourself than it is to promote a company.

Use the marketing system of the top Numis Network distributors.

Up front I should say that I am not part of Jay Kubassek’s business CarbonCopyPRO. Nothing against Jay or the incredible system he has put together. I use a different system because CarbonCopyPRO just wasn’t the right fit for me.

But I have immense respect for Jay Kubassek and have learned more from his example than from anyone else involved in network marketing. Jay is someone with unbelievable integrity and has a greater vision in life than just making money.

The most commonly found vision of Jay that is found on the internet is his dedication to help create 100 millionaires by 2012. In fact he has stated that he will settle for no less than 100 millionaires. His intention is not to create money hungry millionaires, but ones with integrity, dignity and vision.

1. Be a person of value. Jay asks the question “What do I offer society that is worth a million dollars?” This really sticks with me because if I’m not giving anything to society that is of value then I don’t deserve to receive anything in return. Most people go through life as “consumers” yet they feel entitled. Give value to the world and it will give to you in return.

2. Be passionate about what you are doing. This goes hand in hand with intent and integrity. If your intent is only to make a buttload of money without providing anything of worth to people then just forget about being successful. The people that are truly passionate about what they are doing make the greatest amount of money. I’m sure Donald Trump appreciates having his money, but his first love is Real Estate. Read his book “The Art of The Comeback” and you can see that he was more in love with the buildings of New York and keeping them true to their architectural beauty than he was with making millions off of them. He made millions because he didn’t make deals just for a quick buck, he worked with integrity and passion.

3. Know what you are worth and don’t settle for any less until you get it. Don’t be happy to take whatever you are given. Set an amount that your time and talents are worth and don’t stop til you get there. Jay also taught that once you reach that amount; don’t be happy there either. Raise the bar. You made it that far, so keep going.

4. Put a time limit on it. The greatest plays made in sports are during the last few minutes. People do great work under pressure. Don’t work with the thought of “someday”. Put a date on it. Declare what you are going to accomplish and when. Make it final and expect it to happen.

5. Think like a millionaire. This isn’t as easy as it sounds. It doesn’t mean that you sit around thinking about buying cool stuff and rolling around in piles of money. It means to stop listening to the people around you that aren’t millionaires. Are you seriously going to take advice on how to make money from someone that has none? Didn’t think so. Make a commitment to success and focus on your vision of what success is.

I have tremendous respect for Jay Kubassek and what he is doing. By his example I learned how to be a person of value that has integrity in everything I do. I am someone that is psychologically unemployable because I have put a dollar amount on myself that no employer could ever compete with. This is what I was taught by a guy that used to sell mufflers at Midas.

So, what are you worth?

Myth #1 Entrepreneurs are born, not made.

This myth is based on the belief that some people are genetically predisposed to be an entrepreneur. I’m not a geneticist, and I can’t deny that there are some things in our genes that make us predisposed for certain advantages and disadvantages in life. But we are also born with the ability to overcome our disadvantages. I have some friends point out to me that both my parents have owned their own businesses so this myth must be true. I have to remind them I was adopted. You don’t have to believe me though, look at this video about Patrick Hughes before you make an argument about genetics as a reason people are held back in life.

Myth #2 – Entrepreneurs are gamblers

Entrepreneurs are moderate risk takers, but so are most people. When you are gambling you have little to no control over the outcome. A business is not a slot machine. It is a thought out plan that is put to the test and can be tweaked and altered to fit into the current market. The entrepreneurs that are taking a gamble are those that don’t do their homework first and just decide to wing it.

Myth #3 – Entrepreneurs are only motivated by money.

Of course money is a motive, but if that was the only motive they wouldn’t get too far. They also must possess a passion for business, and a belief that the business will positively influence people’s lives. Without a bigger goal than money an entrepreneur will fail. There must be a focus on being a productive person and providing value to society. Without this focus people will not care and totally ignore the entrepreneur that only focuses on making money.

Myth #4 – Entrepreneurs need to be young.

Younger people are showing a growing interest in being entrepreneurs, but the entrepreneurs that show the greatest success the fastest are older. This is because they possess more business experience, skill and time has given them the opportunity to build up a bigger network of contacts. Enthusiasm is more important in age in the entrepreneur game.

Myth #5 – Need money to make money.

To start a large business or a franchise, YES, you need money. To become an investor you need to also have money. But if this were true for all entrepreneurs there wouldn’t be any businesses. People aren’t born with a stack of Benjamins in each hand. And there are just as many people that are born into rich families become failures and waste their family fortune as there are people who are born into rich families that become successful business owners. Go back to Myth #1 and think about overcoming disadvantages.
These myths don’t apply just to MLM, this is for ANY entrepreneur going into any business. It’s not about money, or a feeling of what we believe we are entitled to, it’s not about luck, it’s not about getting a break, it’s about having an unrelenting tenacity to be a success.

Failure rate for entrepreneurs is naturally high because most are trying something that is new to them. They are learning along the way. There is an element of experimentation to find what works for each individual. The ingredient that all successful entrepreneurs have is the determination to succeed.

It’s so rare to hear about anyone successfully building an MLM business offline. 30 years ago MLM was wild and growing and people were building downlines in the thousands. Building an offline MLM business was like taking an afternoon stroll. Doing it now is like running a marathon without training for it. It’s still possible, but you many are dying while trying.

So what is the real cause of this problem?

The internet.

Here’s why. Before the internet an excited MLM distributor would contact their friends and family and referrals that they got. They would show the business plan to them and they were the final authority on the information. Prospects could talk it over with their spouse, ask their friends about it, but there wasn’t any real place to get information about the MLM opportunity other than the person that gave them the information in the first place.

This was power for the MLM distributor, they were holding all the cards because where else was a prospect going to get info about the business plan? There was an information buffer zone and the prospects knew only what the distributor was telling them.

This allowed time for a relationship to build and the prospect to sign up in the business before they learned any of the negative aspects that there might be. Distributors were selling a dream and appealing to the wants and desires of their prospects. Anything about hard work or difficulties could be discussed later.

The distributor controlled what prospects learned before hand about the business opportunity. I’m not saying they were all a bunch of liars and deceivers. But anything they said about the business couldn’t be second guessed, verified or found to be untrue because there was no other source of information.

The decision to join a company or not was based solely on the information that the distributor gave to a prospect, therefore giving the distributor more control over the situation.

The internet changed all that. Google any MLM company and you will find thousands of results. The information is overwhelming and some of it is contradicting.

Now after a business presentation for an MLM company is given, and a prospect says they need to think it over, the distributor giving the presentation can say goodbye to their prospect. They won’t be back. They are going to google the opportunity, find all the overwhelming and contradicting information and they are gone.

If after seeing all of the info they still end up joining an MLM, it won’t be with the person that gave them the presentation, it will be with someone they found on the internet that stood out above all the rest. The person that gave powerful truthful information. They might not even be in the same MLM company.

That is why traditional methods of MLM are dying. The information age brought on by the internet is killing it. It’s also killing internet marketing.

That’s because the little guys on the internet are putting out just enough info to spark an interest about MLM in people. Once their interest is peaked they begin to Google the MLM opportunity. They run into the same information an offline prospect would find. They also find a leader in the industry and end up joining with them.

So how do we overcome this? One common solution that marketers offer is to present yourself as an expert. Problem is that everyone thinks they are the expert. It’s no big deal anymore to present yourself as an expert because everyone else is doing it.

A better solution is not just being an expert, but to give full up front disclosure about MLM and how the industry works. Tell prospects the truths that everyone else holds back. Give the good the bad and the ugly info all at once.

It is commonly thought that people are stupid and that they can’t handle full disclosure about anything. Here’s a news flash, people are smart, they need the right information to make a legitimate decision. I’d rather have someone say no to my MLM opportunity because they made an educated decision than to have someone say yes and not know what they are saying yes to.

I believe the word value to mean an item, principle, standard, good or service considered worthwhile or desirable. It disgusts me to see the words “value menu” on fast food menus advertising their cheapest items. Since when is value cheap? Just call it what it is, the cheap menu. The item you are purchasing is of no real value anyway, it too is also cheap.

So my thoughts today are about a question for you. What types of training and tools are you purchasing for your MLM growth? Are you willing to invest in materials to better yourself as and entrepreneur? Are you doing research on tools that will help you gain real knowledge? Are you seeking educational and training videos and content that has real VALUE?

The 7 figure earners in this industry understand the value of their knowledge and education and have spent thousands of dollars on their personal development.

They didn’t have the means to purchase this knowledge when they started. But they sought out information that was still valuable. Relying solely on information given to you by your upline or your MLM company is not sufficient. This is like the “cheap menu”, it gets you by for awhile, but no one wants to eat of the “cheap menu” everyday.

Taking in knowledge from other sources will form you as an individual and make you stand out from the pack in your company.

You can gain this knowledge from books such as “How To Win Friends and Influence People”, “Think and Grow Rich”, “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, and “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. You can buy used copies of these books online or get them at the library.

Get your hands on books about direct response marketing, networking, personal development, effective speaking, and anything else you can find to make yourself a more effective marketer.

There are also great resources and information available online for MLM marketers. Specifically Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard has become a top selling MLM training book. MLSP created by Norbert Orlewicz, Brian Fanale and Todd Schlomer, has become an advanced system for providing training for you and your distributors while also serving as a lead generator.

The top earners have invested thousands in their education and that is why they are in their position. With over 90% of marketers failing in this industry I can tell you that it is not because their “why” isn’t big enough, it’s because their knowledge isn’t.

Don’t get discouraged by the vast amount that the leaders have spent on seminars, books and courses. You don’t have to spend that much to start making money in your business. They certainly didn’t start out spending thousands. Everyone had to start somewhere.

You can start by choosing one book for bettering you and your business and read it for 15 minutes a day, everyday. This alone will put you ahead of those who are failing in this industry because you are taking steps to get ahead.

There are so many people that are lost in the MLM industry that the good news for you is that it does not take that much effort for you to stand out among them. Many are not going to do what is necessary to make their business grow. If you are willing to take the initiative to educate yourself you are already doing more than what those who are failing are willing to do.

Most don’t believe that personal development will help their business. But think of this, as an employee completes more training for their job they become more valuable to the company and therefore receive a pay raise. As an entrepreneur gains more knowledge they in turn share that information with other marketers, they become more valuable to others. As our value increases as entrepreneurs we see an increase in what receive back.

Without being of any value to society we cannot expect society to return any value to us. More simply put, you must give in order to receive.

When joining an MLM business you are joining with more than just the company. Yes, the company that you are joining needs to be aligned with your beliefs and values, but this is a business of people. You also need to evaluate the sponsor you are choosing.

A lot of people in an MLM business are brought in by a friend or family member as their sponsor. This can be a lot of fun because you are working close with someone you know well, but the downside is that your friends and family may not be qualified to train you on how to run your business because they too may be in the learning stages. This can be a great journey for the both of you, but if you want to skip the headache of learning together you can do some sponsor shopping.

The person that sponsors you into their MLM opportunity isn’t someone that just disappears after they get your money. At least they shouldn’t be. They will be training you on how to market and run your own MLM business.

The 4 qualifications of an MLM sponsor:

1. Committed to your success. The sponsor that is committed to your success in your MLM opportunity is going to give you training and valuable information before you even sign up with them. Your sponsor will want you to be educated on the basics of MLM and knowledgeable before joining the opportunity so that you will be able to jump right in and get started. You can recognize their commitment through their training emails their newsletters and information they have posted for you on their blog.

2. Training outside of what the primary MLM company has to offer. The really good MLM companies have access on their website to train distributors. But the really exceptional MLM sponsors have found other resources that they can tap you into for further MLM training.

3. Their marketing method. Sponsors use the form of advertising for their MLM opportunity that they know how to use the best and the one that they feel the most natural doing. It can be videos, articles, PPC, social media or any single use or combination of a number of methods. Whatever they use is also the form of marketing that they are going to be best at training you in. Your sponsor may know how to utilize other forms of marketing, but they are going to be the most knowledgeable and up to date in the form they use the most. So if you aren’t going to be comfortable using the same marketing tactics that your sponsor is using, then it may not be the best sponsor for you.

4. Their personality. There are so many different types of people in the world. Some of those people we like, others not so much. Obviously the sponsor you choose is going to be someone you like, but it also needs to be someone that you feel comfortable asking questions. Don’t end up sitting in the dark because you feel awkward approaching your sponsor with a question.

If you are choosing to work your MLM business online then it seem logical that you would choose your sponsor through the internet. This is not a choice that should be made quickly so be prepared to take at least a few days to a few weeks to find a sponsor. During this time you should also be doing as much research and learning about MLM as possible so that you will well educated and ready to start when you find the sponsor you click with.

The 4 steps to finding an MLM sponsor that meets the 4 qualifications:

1. RSS. If they have a blog or video channel then subscribe to it. View their content that they put out. It should be valuable, educational and shows their personality.

2. Capture page. Opt in to their capture page. See what they have to offer, read their emails, view any training videos they send you, and get a feel for their style.

3. Do this for more than one. Sign up for several different MLM distributors content. As you find those that aren’t a fit, just unsubscribe from their lists. Narrow down through this process until you have found the right sponsor for you.

4. One final and crucial step in selecting a sponsor, get on the phone with them! You are going to have to stand out to the person sponsoring you. They are going to want to test you out as well and be sure that they are sponsoring someone that isn’t going to be wasting their time and training. Show them your dedication, and by speaking with them after going through the above process you will be an educated prospect. You will know if they are the right sponsor for you, and they will know you are ready to get to work.

By following these steps you will ensure that you find the person that will help you succeed in your MLM business and they will shorten your learning time down to months instead of years.

I hate schedules. The daily planning kind of schedule. I’ve never liked making them because I’m just way too spontaneous. This has caused stress for my friends for years because they never know what I am doing. And it’s funny that my best friend in college was so into planning out her day that she had it planned out to the minute.

However, I can say that I am NEVER late for anything. When someone tells me to be somewhere or do something at a certain time, it’s handled. In fact, I’m usually the first one there. Even funnier, if I was early it used to upset my best friend in college, when she told me 7pm, she meant 7pm, not 6:50pm. Me being ready early would throw of her schedule, that’s how opposite we were.

Every mentor and sponsor in MLM is going to tell you I’m crazy and that I probably have little success and never get anything done because I don’t have a daily schedule.

That’s because every new marketer has it drilled into them that they have to set up a daily schedule and block out their time and do the same things at the same time every day. UM,,,,, boring! I don’t know about you, but I got into this industry because I wanted to do things when I wanted to do them. However, I do have my methods and ways of planning how I get things done.

The reason for emphasizing the importance of a schedule is because many people entering into this industry are moving from the position of employee to entrepreneur and are still used to having a boss schedule their day. Making the transition to scheduling your own day is more difficult that you might think. I couldn’t do it, and I still can’t.

To an outsider that doesn’t have my type of personality they don’t understand how or when anything gets done.

But here is what I do instead. Even though I hate daily schedules I’m very fortunate that I love deadlines. If something needs to be done by a certain time I’m all about beating the deadline and getting it done way before. I’m that nerd in college that did all the work early and didn’t have to cram at the end of the semester. I prioritize everything. I treat it like a challenge to get things done better and sooner.

This is how it works. Everyday, sometimes a couple times a day, I make a list of everything that I need to get done. The list is in two parts. Part one is what has to be done today, starting with what has to be done by a certain time. Part two is the ongoing projects I have, and they stay on the list daily until they are done. I also hate long lists so the ongoing projects don’t stay there more than a couple days.

But I don’t stick to a daily schedule, I don’t even get up with an alarm clock. But this is because I also don’t go to bed until I feel I have accomplished enough in my day. I’m not a procrastinator, I don’t waste my time. I just never do things in the same order or at the same time everyday. I just cross things off the list as they get done.

I’m not putting down the importance of a schedule, because some people thrive on structure and planning. There are others that can’t get anything done without writing it down at a certain time. Then there are those like my old college roommate that had everything planned to the minute.

It is also very important to make sure that the crucial everyday things get handled. To be successful in MLM there are things that need to be done everyday, just like in a real job. Success takes consistency.

I’m not the only marketer that does this, and I bet you would be surprised at the names of the others that do. Some people like to open up a word document and make their list, this includes Mike Dillard. I still like an old fashioned pen and paper because I like the feeling of physically crossing an item off the list.

Whatever you use or however you do it, find a way to get things done. You don’t have to do it like everyone else does. If you absolutely hate someone else’s way of doing something even if they swear it is the only way, or the best way, it’s not going to work for you. Period. So find your own motivation and your own system. Whatever it takes for you to focus and get to work!
