question raised hand How Much Money Do You Make As A Network Marketer? How Much Money Do You Make As A Network Marketer?

First of all, why is it considered ok to ask this question in the Network Marketing industry but not in any other profession?

Some marketers think it’s rude. Then there are those, like me, that when we hear that question we’re really hearing an underlying issue.

First of all, if you’re already in Network Marketing here’s how to answer that question, and how not to answer it. If you are someone that is looking to get into Network Marketing and you’re the one asking that question I have the answer for that too.

Whatever amount of money you are making in Network Marketing, if you tell someone that asks this question, it will be the wrong answer.

Your income in Network Marketing falls into 3 categories:

1. Beginner – You aren’t making anything yet, or are just breaking even, but you haven’t made anything significant yet. If you give this as an answer you lose credibility. People want to join a leader that has produced results.

2. Intermediate – You have begun to create success, you’ve been able to replace your main source of income and possibly even more. If you give this answer, you’re still not really impressing anyone. Because the prospect asking you how much you make has a vision of what they want to make, and quite likely it’s more than what you are at right now. Again, they want to join someone that has produced the results that they want.

3. Advanced Guru – You make $100,000/month and are living the Network Marketers dream. You still don’t want to tell prospects what you make because you will scare them away and draw out their underlying insecurity and self-doubt that they can reach that level.

So, no matter what you make it’s the wrong answer!

What is the right answer?

First we need to address what is really being asked.

The hidden question here isn’t about how much the person being asked makes. The real question that is being asked is how much can they make.

So, when you hear the question: “How much do you make in Network Marketing?” what they really want to know is: “How much am I going to make in Network Marketing?”

Now, to address those of you who have asked this question, or want to ask it. Here is the underlying issue that someone like me, and other marketers that have been in the game for awhile are going to pick up on. Your lack of confidence in your ability to make the income you want in Network Marketing.

Because you know that you don’t really care about what I make. You want to know what you’re going to make. You want reassurance and a guarantee.

You are the only one that can put a guarantee on what you will make as a Network Marketer because your results are directly linked to the effort you put into it.

The reassurance I give is in the training, information, education, resources and tools that I offer to those starting out in Network Marketing.

Editing Note: After writing this I realized I didn’t give a clear way to respond to this question, so thank you for Marcus Baker‘s comment and for Cedrick Harris saying this at least 100 times,,, respond with a question for them in return: “How much of MY money do you have access to and get to spend on a monthly basis?“  NONE “Right, so let’s get you signed up today so you can get to work on what you’re going to make in Network Marketing.

  5. Great post stephanie! it’s really not about how much you make it’s about what your prospect does to make that money. I’ll forward this on to others.

  6. That question is a plague to some marketers, mainly when they are just starting out. I for one love that question, cause it means I got a live one!

This post needs to be shared, good stuff Stephanie,

  7. Great post Stephanie,

One of the best answers I have heard to give to someone asking this question is “How much of MY money can you spend?”. This brings them back to their own focus and then you can ask them how much they would like to make and give them a realistic idea of what it will take to do so.

  8. Very true. For a new person joining my team, how much I make has no bearing what so ever on what they are going to do. They have to understand that it is a business and while I will help them get started, it is up to them to build it. Thanks for handling that objection for everyone and uncovering the root question.

  9. As my grandma would say, “So true sweet Jesus!” Stephanie, this was very well said. You answered the question that so many marketers fear being asked, especially if just starting out. Not anymore after reading your post.
I also hope that those who ask it will take heed and STOP! No one is responsible for your success but you!

  10. Thanks Stephanie for an interesting and thought provoking post. Would be great if a survey can be done of the visitors to see exactly what the distribution looks like. Myself, I am just beginning so can’t say that I have earned anything worth a mention. Thanks again for the post.

  11. Just gained so much value and insight from this post! Still in the beginning phases of MLM and I’ve just learned a HUGE tip on what to and not to say. Trainings are great but when you can walk from one or read an article like this and feel you can take on the world you know the author has been there and done that.

    Thank you Stephanie!

    • Thanks man, that’s a HUGE compliment James! I was actually just talking about this post last night. Met up with some other marketers and one of them said they’ve been getting asked this question a lot. And there’s no right answer to it because the person asking it already has a set amount in their mind that they want to make. And no matter how much we are making,,, it’s either too much or not enough in the prospect’s eyes.
And yup, I’ve answered this question wrong before,,,, so been there done that!
