MLM Company Closed! OMG What Do I Do???

1. Don’t Panic! – That’s like saying “don’t look down” to someone that’s hanging off of a cliff without a safety rope. But seriously. This isn’t the end of the world. What would you do if you lost your job? I’ve lost my job before. Ford decided to close some of it’s smaller dealerships and I was out of a job because the owner took a buy out…. I was a lil pissed and depressed for awhile. But I knew the situation wouldn’t last forever. In fact, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I found network marketing.

2. Contact Your Team – On March 17th 2010 iLearningGlobal discontinued the network marketing model and was no longer going to pay it’s marketers to promote the company. I was one of their marketers…. I was kinda pissed about it. But instead of pouting and quitting MLM I hopped on a conference call with my team and we rallied together and made an educated decision on what to do next.

3. Make A Business Decision, Not An Emotional One. – People initially join MLM based on emotional reasons. They see it as their way out of the rat race, their way to get financial freedom, their way to quit their stupid job, their way to stay home with the family. Whatever their reason is, it’s based off of emotion. When your company closes it is the worst time to make an emotional decision. You already have an education on how this industry works. This is your opportunity to join the best company you possibly can.

4. Learn From It – There’s so many things to learn from this event that it would take too much to list so I’m picking 2 of them. 1st realize that this is why you do not want to be promoting your company. You want to be promoting yourself so that if your company pulls the plug your team will stick together. 2nd it’s important to have more than one source of income. This is why I’m a supporter of affiliate marketing. Affiliate commissions can be enough to maintain your lifestyle and be a back up income to allow you the time to make an educated business decision on which company to join.

MLM Success: A Paint By Numbers Story On The Power Of Network Marketing

Ever have anyone in your upline tell you that you just need to “work through the numbers”? And then you ask yourself “What the heck does that mean anyway”?

Here’s what they’re trying to tell you.

It’s not that they’re saying people are just numbers like in George Orwell’s 1984. What they’re trying to tell you is that there is a percentage of people out there that just flat out aren’t interested in Network Marketing, and out of those that are interested, there is another percentage that don’t want anything to do with your company.

Then there’s your own personal number. This is the number of people you are just going to flat out screw it up with. When you start out you’re not always going to know what to say. You’re going to say the wrong thing, it just happens, we all did it, but it’s how we learned how to get better. We learned from our mistakes and improved.

Mostly we learn that the more simple we keep it and the less pressure we place on ourselves the easier it is, and the more success we have. Have you ever noticed that there’s people in this industry that come in and seem to start sponsoring right away without any experience? In fact, you get a little pissed off because they seem to be clueless, yet they’re sponsoring people faster than you? All they’re doing is what they were told to do. They were coachable and teachable and so they can do it,,, they also don’t care if someone tells them no. Because they know that eventually they will find someone who will say yes.

Once we realize that there is a large number of people that will say No,,, no matter what,,, we can move on and get to the people that are going to say Yes, the people that are ready to jump on board and get to work.

For some of us we find the people that say No first. Some of us find the people that say Yes first.

Here’s a story about someone that has become very successful in Network Marketing.

You may have even heard of this marketer.

He started out as a small town minister in Texas. He was broke, headed for bankruptcy and close to losing his house and his car. He was looking for a way out and discovered Network Marketing.

His sponsor told him that that his business could set him financially free within 1 to 3 years. However, there was going to have to fight off 4 major battles to become financially free.

1. Rejection: His first week he invited 200 of his friends over to his house to watch a video (this was before the days of the internet) 80 of them said “Nope, not interested” No problem though,,, he was told to expect that

2. Deception: Out of the 120 that said they would be there,,, only 70 showed up. No big deal, he was told to expect that too.

3. Apathy: Out of 70 people,,, 57 of them said “no way”. They just weren’t interested in building a business for their financial freedom. He was warned that this would happen as well. Some people just aren’t open to knew ideas. But, at least 70 people saw it, and he had exposed them to a new idea… maybe they would change their minds later.

4. Attrition: Out of the 13 people that signed up into his company that night,,, 12 of them dropped out not too long after that. Yup, only 1 of them stayed in the business.

However, to this day that one person that stayed on board still generates an income for the star of this story. So who is this story about? Mark Yarnell. He worked through the numbers to find that one person that was going to be a star. Mark makes $50,000 per month just from that one person that stayed in the business.

Mark isn’t the only one with a story like this. Bill Britt is one of the most successful distributors in Amway. How did he do it? He showed the plan to 1200 people, only 300 signed up, only 85 out of 300 actually attempted to work the business. Out of those 85 only 35 of them were serious, out of those 35,,, 11 of them made Bill Britt a millionaire.

So, are you willing to talk to 200 people? 1200 people?

How many “no’s” are you willing to hear in order to find the “yes” that will set you free in your business?

This is what “working the numbers” really means. It’s getting through all the people that are going to tell you NO no matter what. The more no’s you hear the more happy you should be. Because it means you are getting through the people that are in the way of your success.

So if you’ve talked to 50 people and you’ve heard 50 no’s, that means you are 50 people closer to finding the right person that will say Yes.

If you’ve talked to 100 people and still haven’t heard a yes,,, are you going to just give up? Or realize that 101 might be your magic number?

You have your own set of odds to work through.

MLM Comp Plans Suck! They’re Just Too Complicated.

I’ve looked at dozens of comp plan variations in approximately 100 different MLM companies. Bottom line, they were all complicated and had crazy requirements to meet certain pay levels.

I’ve seen bonuses that were paid out based on personal production and I’ve seen comp plans where bonuses were paid out based on your downline’s production. I’ve seen stipulations and “bend over backwards and tie yourself in a pretzel” qualifications for getting paid bonuses and percentages.

I’ve seen comp plans that require perfectly balanced legs with those legs each having their own perfectly balanced legs within them, and this was just to hit the minimum bonus! Those are elements that even the most seasoned network marketer cannot control. People are unpredictable, some are willing to do work, and some are not. You can’t control what the people in your downline do.

How much easier and less time consuming it would be to just send in 100 proofs of purchase off of a cereal box and send in a self addressed stamped envelope to win a magic decoder ring to understand comp plans.

So how did I decide which company to go with? How did I decide which comp plan was the best? I looked for one that paid out bonuses on both legs with NO backflips, without standing on my head, and not having to perform a balancing act to keep the legs balanced.

I looked for one that payed out bonuses on BOTH legs, whether they were balanced or not. I looked for a comp plan that not only paid me for my personal efforts, but rewarded me for building, coaching and helping my team.

Do I fully understand any comp plan? No, because the people that design them usually have decades of experience in network marketing and have designed more comp plans than I’ve looked at.

In fact, within my company the comp plan was designed by guys that have 60 years combined experience in Network Marketing, and they have designed over 400 comp plans. So I guess you could say they are experts in the industry. You can also assume that the comp plan pays out in multiple ways, and that it’s designed to reward upfront AND longterm.

So do I understand how the comp plan works? I understand that everytime I try to calculate my paycheck for the week I’m always wrong. I get paid way more than I expected. Which is something I never experienced with any Network Marketing company I was with before.

Any company I was with before didn’t even pay out weekly checks. It was on a monthly basis, and quite often it was paid on efforts from 2 months ago because there was a 30 day holding period.

So yeah, I still think comp plans are complicated. Do I still think they all suck? All but one. The one that pays me weekly, and the one that pays me more than I predict it will, and the one that pays me upfront and NOW for my personal efforts, and pays me matching bonuses on the productivity of my personal team, and the one that pays out a REAL residual, and the one that does NOT make me meet ridiculous requirements to receive my bonuses.
